Seminar on the Effective Anti-corruption Commission

Seminar Summary

  • Objective: A two-day seminar focused on establishing an effective anti-corruption commission in Sudan.
  • Participants: The event saw high-level participation from official authorities, political groups, and civil society, including:
    • Official Representatives: The Minister of Trade and Industry, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture, the Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister, and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, and the Director General of the Police Forces.
    • Security & Investigation: The Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation and the representative of the Director of Economic Security.
    • Political & Civil Groups: Armed struggle forces, political and civil women’s groups (Munsim), the Confederation of Civil Society Organizations (TAM), the Sudanese Professionals Association, and Women Lawyers for Change.
    • Regional Partners: SDFG partners from Khartoum, Al Jazeera, Sennar, Al Daly and Al Mazoum, White Nile, El Fasher, South Kordofan, and Gedaref.
    • Media: Various media actors and civil society organizations.

The seminar aimed to bring together diverse stakeholders to discuss the legal and institutional frameworks necessary for a robust anti-corruption mechanism during Sudan's transitional period. This initiative was part of SDFG's broader work on Governance and Institutional Reform, aiming to restructure state institutions to respect human rights and preserve the rule of law.

A related publication resulting from these efforts, titled "The Legal Framework for an Effective Sudanese Anti-corruption Commission," was later published on June 17, 2021, detailing the global challenges of corruption and the specific legal requirements for a successful commission in the Sudanese context.
